Look UP, not down

Last week was interesting. I got my second jab (Pfizer) and I told friends and family. The responses were, hm, interesting.

"Pfizer#2 is rumoured to be THE ONE for side effects."

"Side effects are statistically worse for women."

"Friends of mine were sick for two weeks afterwards."

Thanks guys.

That didn't bode well. As I thought and ruminated about those "well wishes" (???), I could feel a headache coming on and muscle ache. There we go, I thought.

NO! WAIT! STOP!

I want to go climbing tomorrow. The sun will be out, blue sky, ideal temperature. As I thought about what I wanted to do, what was important to me, the headache and the muscle ache ceased. Mind over body? Maybe. What is striking is how the mind influences the body.

And I remembered that for every statistic, there is a pro and a con, a plus and a minus. Why were my friends only sharing the minus, the cons? Where were the stories and examples of those who had no side effects?

I made a decision to focus on the pros of all those stats, the no-side effects stories. After all, that would be better for what I wanted to do.

Actively noticing how my mind can influence how I feel was pretty empowering. As a coach, I know this personally, and I see it with my clients. Having those moments is absolutely special to me.

I looked up, not down. It was a brilliant day on the rock.

There are some things I can control, some I can influence and some I just have to let go. Last week showed me what I can control and how I can grow my influence.

Do you want to look up more? Let me know and maybe we can look up together - sonja@adventureyourself.com.au.
