Recognising what you already have - and using it

It’s Monday night, lots of empty space in the fridge and I probably should go shopping to make a reasonable dinner, except I don’t want to go out. So I start rummaging through various cupboards. It’s amazing what is actually there, although nothing on its own says ‘dinner’. With a bit of imagination, I pull together a meal that is much better than ‘not half bad’.

Come Tuesday night, I prefer to sit in front of the fire - again. Still hadn’t gone shopping. But yesterday inspired me, so for today and the next days, I will explore and become creative with all the ‘empty fridge and cupboards’ that seemingly surround me.

It’s a surprise what we see as ‘empty’, ‘nothing there’, when we actually have a rich variety to choose from - if we recognise what we have and use it to make the best out of it. While also acknowledging when we are depleting our resources.

So, continuing with the analogy - although it is true and I am on day four of seemingly ‘empty’ fridge and ‘nothing in the cupboard’, I do have staples that I can rely on, we all do. Along the way, I am finding things that - as it happens - are long past their ‘best by date’. They definitely need to go.

Do you trust yourself that you know where and what your resources are; how to mix them together for an outcome; of letting go of the want and idea that everything needs to be perfect; of being creative, adventurous and trying new things? Of acknowledging that sometimes we give up too early, because circumstances are not as easy and forthcoming as we would like them to be.

I am looking forward to the tipping point - noticing when and how the resources are getting less, when options start to diminish, when the fridge and the cupboards are truly empty so that all that is left is some olive oil, pasta, tomato sauce and salt. You can call it a spring clean, or you can see it as a challenge to delve into and work with the resources you didn’t know you had, while recognising when you are really depleting the resources.

If you are wanting to find out what resources you have or if you need to go shopping to replenish (like I will at some stage), ping me.
