Looking after your mind is like an oil change

We service our car regularly to keep it in good nick and up to the tasks that are required of it. But when do we service our most valuable asset – our mind? This topic was brought up in my group coaching session earlier today.

The conclusion was that we service the car regularly, but that we leave servicing our mind until way too late. Because “she’ll be right, mate”. Right? Wrong.

We are talking about unprecedented times and how the world we live in is changing. With so much change occurring, it’s normal to feel confused, frustrated, angry, sad. Our mind needs regular servicing to keep it from burning out in this environment.

Reaching out for support and assistance is a strength, not a weakness. We may be confused in the current environment. We may be frustrated and angry that we can’t travel to see loved ones (my family is in Europe, I truly understand). Or we may be sad and grieving at the loss of jobs and the good, old times that were.

Reaching out to a coach to facilitate and work through the changes that we are experiencing is like an oil change, necessary to keep the engine – you – going. It’s not a weakness in the construction, it’s maintenance before the engine burns out.

If your personal engine needs an oil change, reach out to me.
